Biography

 Robert W. Gregory serves as Assistant Professor in the Information Systems Department at the Barcelona campus of IESE Business School since September 2013. He holds a combined Bachelor's and Master's degree (Diploma) in Management Information Systems from the University of Cologne, a Master's degree in International Management from the Community of European Management Schools and a PhD in Business Administration (especially Information Systems) from Goethe University Frankfurt.    For his research on Digital Transformation he received the prestigious Early Career Award from the global Association for Information Systems in 2016. Multiple of his works, including on Organizational Ambidexterity Capabilities and the Management of Paradoxes in the context of Digital Transformation, received Best Paper Award nominations from the German Academic Association for Business Research as well as the CIONET community of 4000 European CIOs. For his research on Management of Global Information Systems Projects he received the Alcatel-Lucent dissertation award in 2011. He was also a finalist for the Targion 2011 dissertation award for Strategic Information Management.    Robert has focused his career on exploring cutting-edge research topics and novel yet poorly understood phenomena related to Information Systems. Currently, his main area of interest is Digital Transformation, which is related also to Digital Business Strategy, Digital Innovation, Consumerization of IT, Organizational Ambidexterity, Managing Strategic Paradoxes, Competing Institutional Logics, and Designing Organizations and Systems for Human-Machine Symbiosis. Robert works on these and other topics through engaged scholarship and collaborative researcher-practitioner relationships in a variety of business domains and sectors in which the impact of new digital technology is potentially disruptive. Of particular interest, currently, are the financial services, automotive, and healthcare domains. Robert's work is inspired by the idea of having a positive and lasting impact through his research and creating synergies among the various types of research, teaching, and consulting activities across multiple contexts and geographies.    Robert's research is presented regularly at top-tier conferences, including the yearly International Conference on Information Systems. His work has appeared in the top-tier journals of the Information Systems discipline, including Management Information Systems Quarterly and Information Systems Research. He has also published parts of his work in other journals, including European Journal of Information Systems, Information Systems Frontiers, and Information Technology and People.
