Biography
He is an ICREA Research Professor in Archaeology at the University of Barcelona. Previously, he held posts at the CSIC (1993-94), Complutense University of Madrid (1993-95) and Durham University (1996-2011), where he was a Reader. In the past he has served in many committees of national and international character; currently he is the vice-president of the History of Archaeology Commission of the IUPPS and a member of the Nomination Committee of the European Association of Archaeologists (EAA), the association for all professional archaeologists of Europe and beyond. He is often required to serve as an evaluator/referee of fellowships and publications. He is the PI of the “Inter-Arq” (HAR2016-80271-P), the SONART projects (GENCAT 2014/100782; PIEF-GA-2013-627351) and of 3 personel grants (BES-2013-063862). He is leading research interest groups on heritage (www.gapp.cat) and archaeoacoustics (www.archeoacustica.net). He is keen on promoting social impact through my research.
Research Interest
In the past few years he has been active in the fields of heritage, the history of archaeology, rock art and acoustics and identity, publishing and organising research events on a national and international level on these fields. His work has been published by Oxford University Press, Routledge, Cambridge University Press, Springer and Marcial Pons, among other prestigious publishers. Some of his articles have been included in readers and others have been translated into five different languages. He is currently supervising five PhD students and in the past he has seen nine PhD students through to completion. He has also supervised six post-doctoral students, all of them with prestigious fellowships. As a field archaeologist his work focuses on archaeoacustics and as a historian on archaeology and heritage he is mainly researching on the history of 20th-century archaeology, archaeological tourism, World Heritage, and the social value of heritage.
