Biography
Lluís Riera was the Director for Development Policy at the European Commission's Directorate General for International Cooperation and Development until December 2014. In this capacity he was in charge of thematic policy issues, such as sustainable management of natural resources, human development, social cohesion and employment, as well as economic development. He led the negotiation of FLEGT VPAs in Liberia, Ghana and Honduras. Riera's career at the European Commission spanned more than three decades. Before joining the Commission, Riera was a professor in International Economics in Spain at the Business School (ESADE) and the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). He holds a doctorate in Spanish economic policy and a degree in Economics.
