Research Interest
energy crops are those destined for the production of renewable energy, either in the form of biodiesel, bioethanol, or solid biomass. The research line focuses on the genetic improvement of productive potential, adaptation to marginal conditions, resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses, and the quality of the oil of different energy crops, including sunflower, safflower, carinata, crambe, sinapis, camelina, castor and jatropha. Also, a line of research is developed to promote the accumulation of bioactive compounds in the seeds and vegetative organs of the plant, so that the crop residues add value. Among these compounds are glucosinolates, polyphenols, tocopherols (vitamin E) and phytosterols, with important applications for human health.
