Research Interest
Development of genetic improvement approaches integrated with the management of pollinating bees to: 1) obtain populations with a broad genetic base that demonstrate high production and resilience mediated by heterosis and that are also respectful of pollinators, and 2) progress on basic practical issues, aimed at better exploitation of heterosis in legumes. Hybrid technology is designed and developed based on the understanding of the plant-pollinator interface for the increase of cross-pollination assisted by pollinator insects using tools of pollination ecology, genetic improvement and bioinformatics. It focuses on Vicia faba as a model plant, as it is a partially allogama species, pollinated by various bees and showing significant heterosis in yield stability and resilience.
