Biography

My activity is developed in the field of ecophysiology and water relations of the whole plant, and is aimed at the functional analysis of morphological and physiological traits of roots and shoots under abiotic stress. The aim of this research is to generate knowledge for improving tomato crop to saline and water stress. Since various methodological approaches (experiments developed in greenhouses and growth chambers, both in hydroponics and different soil substrates) the ability of the root to capture water and nutrients, its implications in photosynthesis and transpiration, and the impact on production and quality of the harvest is studied. The general objectives addressed are: (i) identify genotypes of tomato which have a high tolerance to abiotic stress, (ii) identify in these genotypes possible morphological and/or physiological traits involved in the tolerance. I work with different groups studying the genetic basis of traits that determine tolerance to abiotic stress in tomato crop.
