Biography
As a senior computer scientist at the Janssen Human Microbiology Institute (JHMI), Keng is responsible for designing and developing appropriate data analysis strategies for microbioma data analysis for new diagnoses and objectives. Keng joined JHMI from Genedata Inc, USA. A Switzerland-based consulting and software company specializing in computer and consulting solutions for the life sciences industry. As the account manager of the selection business unit, he was in charge of several clients in the industrial biotechnology and agriculture space and provided technical support and scientific advice for his next generation sequencing projects (NGS). Prior to joining Genedata, Keng worked with Ciris Energy, a Colorado-based industrial biotechnology company, where he served as an advanced metabolic engineer and worked on computer production lines to build metabolic models for the optimization of microbial carriers, as well as for the analysis of bioprocess data and models for the production of biochemicals and biofuels from renewable raw materials. Before beginning his scientific career, Keng worked four and a half years as the senior manager of the Singapore Workforce Development Agency, where he helped design, develop and implement continuing education training frameworks for adult workers with the aim of ensure that they remain competitive and can be employed in their respective industries. Keng earned his doctorate in metabolic models and network analysis from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland. He also earned a Master of Science (MS) in bioinformatics at Nanyang University of Technology, Singapore; a master's degree in science (MS) with a major in industrial engineering and operations; a bachelor's degree in economics and a bachelor's degree in education sciences (BSE) with a specialty in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
