Biography
Enrique Lara-Pezzi holds a degree in Chemical Sciences from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (1995) and a doctorate in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the same university (2000). His doctoral thesis, carried out in the laboratory of Manuel López-Cabrera at the Hospital Universitario de la Princesa, in Madrid, focused on the study of the HBx protein from the hepatitis B virus and his contribution to the immune response and to the hepatocellular development. After a first postdoctoral stay in the laboratory of Dr. López-Cabrera, during which the study of the HBx protein continued. In 2003 he joined the laboratory of Prof. Nadia Rosenthal (European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Monterotondo, Italy), where she studied the contribution of the calcineurin isoform CnAß1 to regeneration of skeletal muscle until 2006. With funding from the Marie Curie program, she moved to the laboratory of Prof. Nadia Rosenthal at the Heart Science Center (Imperial College London) to investigate the molecular mechanisms that mediate heart failure and regeneration of the cardiac tissue (2006-2009). Enrique joined the CNIC in 2009.
