Biography

Dr. Redondo completed his degree in Biochemistry (1982) and Doctorate in Science (1987) by the Autonomous University of Madrid. During his doctoral thesis and postdoctoral training, his work focused on the area of ​​Immunology, especially in processes of activation and transcriptional regulation of T lymphocytes, as well as in the mechanisms of generation of diversity. These works were carried out at the Severo Ochoa Molecular Biology Center (CBMSO), Hospital de la Princesa in Madrid, at Harvard Medical School and at Duke Medical Center. Since 1995 he has directed his own laboratory, initially in the CBMSO (CSIC / UAM) and his area of ​​work was extended to the study of transcriptional regulation in processes of endothelial activation, angiogenesis and inflammation. Much of his work has focused on the study of the regulation and function of the Calcineurin / NFAT signaling pathway. This pathway is not only involved in the processes mentioned above, but also plays an important role in chronic inflammatory diseases, cardiac hypertrophy and ischemic retinopathies. All these physiological or pathological processes are the subject of research by Dr. Redondo's group. After an agreement with the CSIC, of ​​which he is Professor of Research, in November 2001 he joined the CNIC, where he carries out his research as Senior Researcher in the Department of Vascular Biology and Inflammation.
