Biography
Sam is a board-certified oncologist who was most recently the founding CEO and Chairman of Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc. from 2003 until his retirement in 2009. Previously, he was Company Group Chairman of ALZA Corporation and has also held clinical research and development management positions at Schering-Plough, XOMA Corp., and Genentech as well as been a faculty member of UCSF’s Department of Medicine. Sam serves on the Board of Directors at Trubion Pharmaceuticals, Auspex Pharmaceuticals, and Cougar Biotechnology, Inc. He received a B.S. and an M.D. from the University of Illinois.
