Biography

Antonio López-Gay is a researcher at the Center for Demographic Studies and holds a PhD in Demography from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (CTESC Award-2007). He is the principal investigator of the Movipol project (“Residential mobility, sociodemographic selection and population substitution: towards the polarization of the Spanish cities?”). In the context of this project he conducts research on the territorial patterns of residential mobility, the sociodemographic transformation of urban areas and the impact of processes as gentrification or turistification in the sociodemographic composition of the population. He is also member of the European project Equalize and has participated during five years in the WorldFam project. In the context of these projects, his main interests deals with the patterns of union formation and family change from a worldwide perspective focusing in the intra-regional diversity. His research agenda also includes the integration and dissemination of census data in the context of the IECM project. He worked during three years as a postdoctoral researcher at the IPUMS-International project of the University of Minnesota (USA). He also conducted research stays at the Núcleo de Estudos de População of the University of Campinas (Brazil) and at the Population Research Centre of the University of Groningen (The Netherlands).
