Biography
"Jorge Baranda (Barcelona,1984) received his MSc. degree in Telecommunications Engineering and his MSc. in Science of Information and Communication Technologies (MINT) from the ETSETB-Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) in July 2008. His Master Thesis consisted of the development of a system to detect and locate people in images and videos using Histogram of Oriented Gradients. This work was developed within the Video Processing and Analysis group (VPA) of Philips Research at the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven (The Netherlands). In October 2007, he received the “Leonardo da Vinci” grant from the Universitat Ramón Llull to help in the development of his Master Thesis. In November 2009 he joined the CTTC as a research engineer. Prior to this, he worked at GMV in the Information Security department. During his time in CTTC, he has participated in European-funded projects (5G-Transformer, 5G-Crosshaul, SANSA, PHYDYAS), national funded projects (SYMBIOSIS, 5GNORM, DUAL-CR) and industrial-funded projects. The development of such projects has allowed him to gain experience in the research and development of standardized wireless communication systems (WiMAX, LTE), mobile and transport networks and its orchestration and management using SDN and NFV techniques. He has also participated in the development of the first prototype of a Visible Light Communication transceiver based on the IEEE 802.15.7 standard. His main interests are focused on different aspects of networking: SDN, NFV and how these trends can complement former distributed networking concepts like efficient routing. He is also interested in radio wireless communication systems, mobile and transport networks, and signal and image processing"
