Biography
Peer M. Schatz, Chief Executive Officer, Managing Director, has spearheaded the development of QIAGEN’s strategic focus on Sample & Assay Technologies and leads the efforts to bring these technologies to customers in molecular diagnostics, applied testing, academia and the pharmaceutical industry. Mr. Schatz joined QIAGEN in 1993, when there were just 30 employees and revenues of approximately $2 million. Under his direction, QIAGEN has grown to revenues of more than $1.3 billion and 4,000 people in over 35 locations around the world. He has also led QIAGEN to stock listings on NASDAQ, making QIAGEN the first German company to do so, as well as the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Mr. Schatz, a Swiss and Austrian citizen, was born in New York and grew up in the United States and Switzerland. He studied business and social sciences at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, where he graduated with a M.S. in Finance in 1989. He later obtained an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 1991. Prior to joining QIAGEN, Mr. Schatz held various positions at Sandoz AG and Computerland, and also participated in the founding of startup companies in the computer and software trading industry in both Europe and the United States. He is a board member of AdvaMedDx (Unites States In-Vitro diagnostics industry organization) and ALDA (Analytical, Life Science & Diagnostics Association). He is also chairman of the Board of Directors of QIAGEN Marseille (formerly Ipsogen S.A., in which QIAGEN acquired a majority interest in 2011).
