Biography
Dr. Thomas Schweins, Senior Vice President, Life Science Business Area and Human Resources, leads the Life Science Business Area to drive QIAGEN’s presence in the Academia, Pharma and Applied Testing customer classes. In addition, he is responsible for initiatives to maximize human capital as well as corporate strategy and marketing services. Dr. Schweins joined QIAGEN in 2004 as Vice President Corporate Strategy and became Vice President Marketing & Strategy in 2005, where he was deeply involved in managing the global business toward Life Science customers. He took on responsibility for Human Resources in 2012, and reassumed the role involving the Life Science Business Area in early 2017. Dr. Schweins joined QIAGEN from The Boston Consulting Group, where he was a core team member of the Pharma/Health Care Area as well as the Corporate Development Practice Area. Before this, Dr. Schweins worked as Technology Manager and later as Assistant to the Management Board with Hoechst/Aventis. Dr. Schweins has a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Hanover in Germany, and obtained his Ph.D. at the Max Planck Society. In addition, he did post-doctorate research at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where he also studied Business Administration and Chemistry.

His area of research interest includes: Business Management in pharmaceutical technologies, biotech and pharmaceutical sciences.
