Biography
He studied in the University of Navarra, obtaining 24 diplomas of honor and Extraordinary Prize in Medicine Degree, as well as the Prize of the Royal Academy of Medicine for his Degree of Doctor, obtained in the University of Cadiz. Ramon y Cajal Hospital of the University of Alcala in Madrid has carried out most of his career. He joined in 1979 and has held different responsibilities until becoming Head of Service in 1994, later obtained the Chair of Psychiatry (2002) and since 1998 is also Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine. Visiting Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Columbia University, New York, during the Academic Course 2007-2008. Within its orientation towards the biological bases of behavior and the integration of psychiatry in the rest of medicine, it has published more than 140 research papers in impact journals and more than 100 in other Spanish publications with an intemational scope, as well as monographs and books, especially in the field of affective, impulsive and anxious things. He is also Director of the Collection "Medical Psychiatry" in the Masson Publishing House and the Collection "Psychiatry 21" in the STM Publishing House, as well as co-Founder of the "Monographs of Psychiatry" and the web Psychiatry.com. He recently obtained the 1st JJ Barcia Goyanes Award for research in Neuroscience. His fundamental research activity is directed to Trasto or Bipolar, Depresion, Anxiety and Disorder in the Control of Impulses (Suicidal Behavior, Bulimia, Addictions, Ludopatia, Trasto or Obsessive Compulsive), especially in relation to psychobiological markers of vulnerability, neurochemical, psychophysiological, endocrinological models and in the last years of molecular genetics, besides of clinical and therapeutic studies in this type of indications. It has five six years of research recognized and has been IP of more than 30 Projects funded. He has conducted 29 PhD theses. in addition to clinical and therapeutic studies in this type of indications.
