Biography

Mr. José Manuel Menchón Magriñá attends medical studies and obtains the Degree with Outstanding Degree in 1981. The stage of specialized training is developed as an Intern or Resident Physician at Hospital Clínic de Barcelona from 1983 to 1986. In 1987 he is awarded a scholarship for the development of the research project that was the subject of the doctoral thesis, 'Polythematic classification of non-melancholic depressions'. From 1988 to 1991 he held positions as a medical collaborator, associate doctor of guards or associate doctor in the Department of Psychiatry of Hospital Cínico. In 1991 he is hired as a specialist in the Psychiatry Service of the Hospital Universitario de Bellvitge of the Institut Català de la Salut. In October 2004 he obtained the position of Chief of Section of the Psychiatry Service. Since March 2008 he has been in charge of the Psychiatry Service Headquarters. The assistance activity has been carried out in general university hospitals and there has been activity in the various general care areas (hospitalization, emergency, consultations, external consultations, primary care) as well as participation in specific specialized programs. In the teaching field he has been associate professor of medicine at the Department of Psychiatry and Clinical Psychobiology at the University of Barcelona from 1999 to September 2005 and later at the Department of Clinical Sciences Campus Bellvitge at the Universitat de Barcelona until February 2008. After obtaining the national qualification for the Teaching Body of University Professors in the area of ​​Knowledge of Psychiatry in February 2007, holds the position of Professor of Psychiatry of the Department of Clinical Sciences of the Bellvitge Campus of the Universitat de Barcelona since February 2008 to the present. He has been President of the Societat Catalana de Psiquiatría and member of the Board of Directors of the Spanish Society of Biological Psychiatry. Member of the Editorial Board as associate editor of the Journal of Psychiatry and Mental Health, and member of the European Psychiatry Advisory Board, as well as a reviewer for national and international journals as well as project sponsors research. He is co-author of 10 books, 76 book chapters and more than 100 articles or monographs of which 50 are in indexed journals. The main lines of research have been the affective and the fret or obsessive-compulsive disorder within the rest of the anxiety. The lines of research have been framed within the ones directed by Prof. Julio Vallejo, who was the director of the doctoral thesis, 'Political classification of non-melancholic depressions' defended in 1994. He has obtained funding for various research projects in public and competitive calls. He is a principal investigator of a research group of CIBER (Center for Biomedical Research in Network) in Mental Health (CIBERSAM) and currently develops research in clinical, therapeutic, evolutionary and basic areas, especially neuroimaging and genetics, of different the fret os of mood and fret or obsessive-compulsive.
