Biography
Psychiatrist and Doctor in Epidemiology and Public Health. Director of the San Juan de Dios Foundation for Teaching and Research since 2005 and Director of Research of San Juan de Dios-Mental Health Services since 2001. After receiving a bachelor's degree in medicine he received a degree in Epidemiology and Public Health from the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health (Baltimore, MD, USA). Upon returning to Barcelona, ​​he began his residency in psychiatry at the Hospital Clínico de Barcelona. Since 1994, the year of completion of the residency, I have been dedicated to both clinical psychiatry and mental health research. My areas of research are schizophrenia and the epidemiology of mental disorders. In schizophrenia, I am interested in studying the consequences of the disorder or in the functioning of patients and their quality of life, and social impact of the disease. I have also investigated the treatment of schizophrenia, both through clinical trials and observational studies. In the area of ​​epidemiology of mental disorders, I have participated in projects that evaluate the impact of mental disorders on the general population, as well as the treatment of people suffering from anxiety and depressive disorders in primary health care .
