Biography
Lourdes Fañanás Saura is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona since 1997. She leads her own research group and also teaches Human Biology and Genetics of Complex Diseases for final-year honors students and Doctorate and Master students . She obtained her degree in Biology at the University of Barcelona and on Medicine and Surgery at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Her PhD project was focused on the Study of Biological and Genetic Risk Factors in Schizophrenia and she received her PhD title with honors in Biological Sciences at the Universitat de Barcelona in 1988. Dr. Fañánás performed her postdoctoral research between 1994 and 1997, in several stays at the Institute of Psychiatry and University College of London, under the direction of Professor Robin Murray. Because of her collaboration with Prof. Murray, she was nominated as Honorary Senior Lecturer of the Institute of Psychiatry until 2004 and, currently, she is Invited Visiting Researcher. In 2006, Dr Fañanás received the "Accreditation of Advanced Research by the Agency for the Qualitat of the Universitat System of Catalonia (AQU Catalunya)" in Life Sciences. In recent years, she has been awarded the USA-Narsad Independent Research Award (2008). She is member of the IBUB (Institute of Biomedicine of the University of Barcelona) and of the Spanish CIBER of Mental Health (CIBER-SAM). She also belongs to a quality research group of the Directorate-General for Research, Commission for Universities and Research, Generalitat de Catalunya.
