Biography
Dr. Luis Fe ando Agüera Ortiz was born in Cordoba in 1960. He completed his medical degree between 1977 and 1983. He has been a Specialist in Psychiatry since 1988. He has a specific training in Psychogeriatrics at the University of Geneva (Switzerland) .. On his return to Spain in 1989 he worked as a consultant for Psychogeriatrics at the Massachussets Institute in Spain and later began working at the Psychiatry Service at the Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre in Madrid, where he continues today. Attained the degree of Doctor in 1994 in the Autonomous University of Madrid In the Hospital 12 of October and in the Area 11 of Mental Health of Madrid it is psychoogeriatra of reference and coordinator of programs of psicogeriatria, as well as in charge of the Unit of Psycho-geratry and of the Psychiatric Interconsul of the Hospital. He is also Coordinator of Training Programs and Secretary of the Teaching Commission of Psychiatry and Mental Health. For 12 years he was a tutor of the resident psychiatrists of this service. At the Universidad Complutense de Madrid he has been an Associate Professor of Psychology and is currently an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine. He is a member of the Multidisciplinary Support Unit of the Alzheimer's Research Unit of the Reina Sofía Foundation / CIEN Foundation since November 2007. Regarding scientific activity, he is the author of more than one hundred papers in national and intemational congresses. He has published numerous scientific articles in national and foreign magazines, more than 20 book chapters and more than 10 books as first or only author, mainly in the field of Geriatric Psychiatry, Depression, Late Psychosis and Dementia. He is editor of the treatise "Geriatric Psychiatry". Editorial Elsevier, which is the main book of the specialty in Spanish language and that already knows two editions. He is the director of the Revista Psicoeriatría. As a researcher, he has participated in or designed various clinical trials and research projects, mainly in the field of psychogeriatrics, depression and dementias. He has participated as a speaker in several conferences and consensus publications such as the International Consensus on Late-onset psychosis, the Dementia Consensus of the Spanish Society of Psychiatry, and others in conjunction with Neurology, Geriatrics and Family and Community Medicine.
