Biography
Sergi Papiol is performing a postdoctoral stay at the Max-Planck Institute of Experimental Medicine (Göttingen, Germany) since June 2007. He got his degree in Biology on July 2000 at the University of Barcelona. Subsequently I have developed his PhD project at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona under the supervision of Dr. Lourdes Fañanás. His PhD project was focused on the analyzes of genetic variability in candidate genes for major psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depression). His doctoral thesis entitled: "Analysis of genetic variation in candidate genes for functional psychosis: an approach based on endophenotypes and clinical features" was presented at the University of Barcelona in 2007 (Qualification: excellent Cum Laude unanimously), He is currently performing his postdoctoral research at the Max-Planck Institute of Experimental Medicine (Göttingen, Germany) under the direction of Professor Klaus-Armin Nave. He is member of the IBUB (Institute of Biomedicine of the University of Barcelona) and of the Spanish CIBER of Mental Health (CIBER-SAM). He also belongs to a quality research group of the Directorate-General for Research, Commission for Universities and Research, Generalitat de Catalunya. The line of research of Sergi Papiol has been centered on the analysis of the impact of genetic variability mapped to candidate genes on candidate endophenotypes (biological traits) which are usually observed in patients affected by these major disorders.
