Javier S Castresana

Biography

Javier S Castresana is a Professor of Genetics at the University of Navarra School of Sciences in Pamplona .He received a MD degree in 1987 and a PhD 1992 from the University of the Basque Country Leioa Spain. He was a research fellow at the Karolinska Institute Stockholm Sweden in (1988-1990) and at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School Boston USA (1990-1992). He worked in the Spanish Research Council CSIC in Madrid 1992-1997 as a senior scientist and finally moved to the University of Navarra as an Assistant Professor (1997-2004).After that he worked as Associate Professor (2004-2010) and presently Professor of Genetics where he directs the Brain Tumor Biology Unit and dedicates to understanding the molecular genetics and cell biology of lethal tumors like glioblastoma medulloblastoma and neuroblastoma. He has published more than 65 articles in scientific journals more than 10 book chapters in oncology and more than 100 communications to scientific meetings. He has directed about 16 Phd theses. He acts as a reviewer of more than 20 scientific journals in the oncology and pathology fields and of research projects at the European Commission and at several Spanish research agencies. He teaches cancer genetics to Masters\\\\\\\\ students at the University of Navarra. He is married and has 6 children.
