Biography
He has been mainly devoted to the evolutionary, systematic and ecological research (Biodetection) of lichens (lichenized ascomycetes, mycology). He has worked on the relationship between phenotypic and genomic characters, highlighting the high morphological homoplasia of fungi and revealing the usual existence of a large number of cryptic species in lichens; It has also contributed to the configuration of the current evolutionary system of fungi, especially with its contribution to the definition of the modern concept of gender. He has also worked on the molecular identification of species (animals, plants and fungi) and collaborates in the design of DNA-Barcoding. He has directed 10 Doctoral Theses and numerous supervised research works (dissertations and similar). He has published about 120 scientific articles 75 of them in prestigious international journals. He has collaborated in several scientific books and sporadically in a wide-spread press on scientific policy or current scientific topics.
