Biography

PhD in Biological Sciences at the University of Málaga. Following his doctoral thesis, he began research on the embryonic development of the vertebrate heart and its relation to diseases of the cardiovascular system. These investigations continued in the USA thanks to a postdoctoral fellowship funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Medical University of South Carolina (2000-2002) and then again in Spain following his reinstatement as Assistant Professor at The UMA. He is currently a Full Professor in the Department of Animal and Visiting Scientific Biology of the National Center for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC-ISCIII) in Madrid, where he works as a teacher (graduate and postgraduate) and researcher. I have participated in 15 research projects (in 7 of them as principal investigator) financed by national institutions (National R & D & I, ISCIII, Junta de Andalucía) and international institutions (EU Framework Programs for Research, Science Program Of NATO Life) and is the author of over 45 scientific articles published in international journals. He has lectured at prestigious academic and research centers (Harvard University, Boston, USA, Mount Sinai Hospital & School of Medicine, New York, USA, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, Leiden University, The Netherlands, University of Tromsø, Norway; University of Padua, Italy, Tokyo Women's University, Tokyo, Japan, among others).
