Biography
Graduated in Biology in 1978 and Doctorate in 1981, being Extraordinary Prize of Doctorate that same year, both in the Faculty of Biology of the University of Seville. After a period as a professor at the University of Seville (1978 to 1981), appointed professor in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Malaga since 1990. Member of the University since 1991 and Professor of Physiology at the University of Málaga since 2012. During his teaching years he has taught in subjects of first and second year in the Faculty of Medicine, in the Faculty of Health Sciences, First Degree Nursing and Degree after and in the Faculty of Psychology, Degree of Speech. Currently developing his teaching assignment mainly in the Faculty of Medicine and in the Faculty of Health Sciences. He worked in the Department of Neuroscience of the Karolinska Institute (Stockholm, Sweden) from 1989 to 1992, together with Prof. Kjell Fuxe. Principal Investigator in three projects of the National Research Plan, in one of the Junta de Andalucía and in one of a pharmaceutical industry Glaxo-Smith-Klein. He has been a researcher collaborator in more than ten research projects. His scientific work began with the study of neuropeptides in central cardiorespiratory control areas, continued with the study of the effect of stress on neurotransmission in these areas and continue currently with the study of new strategies in neuroprotection against stress oxidative action in the nigrostriatal dopaminergic route. He is the author of more than a hundred publications in the field of neuroscience between indexed articles, articles in Spanish magazines and book chapters, most as first author or director of research. These works have formed the basis of several doctoral theses the Department of Physiology and one of them in collaboration with the Karolinska Institute. Between 2005 and 1991 he was Secretary of the Department of Human Physiology and Physical Education and Sports. Since the academic year 2006-2007 it has been Academic Coordinator first and is currently Center Coordinator at the Erasmus Program of the Faculty of Medicine and secretary of the Subcommittee International Relations and Mobility of the Faculty of Medicine.
