Matías Francisco Mérida Rodríguez

Biography

Full Professor of the University of the Area of ​​Regional Geographic Analysis at the University of Málaga and member of the Research Group Geographic Analysis, its lines of research focus on landscape study (landscape integration, cultural landscapes), in the analysis of urban spaces and peri-urban areas, as well as in the territorial planning of natural spaces. It has also developed research on natural hazards (social vulnerability) and on the application of transdisciplinary approaches in university teaching. He is professor responsible for subject Analysis, assessment and management of the landscape, of the degree of Geography and Territory of the University of Málaga, and has taught on landscape in different Masters and postgraduate courses (Universities of Malaga, Granada and Seville), including the Master in Protection, Management and Landscape Management, as well as in specialized courses on landscape integration (Ministry of Environment, Junta de Andalucía). He has doctoral thesis and currently directs another two (one of them with a public defense set for November 2015), as well as numerous end-of-life Master, all linked with landscape studies. He has been principal investigator of different research projects related integration of human activities, such as scattered diffuse urbanism or renewable energy facilities, from which they have been derived numerous publications and presentations. He has participated as a researcher in different research projects (4 R & D, funded by the Ministry, and 3 by the Andalusia, Projects of Excellence) dedicated to the study of the landscape (renewable energies, patrimonial landscapes), the assessment of natural hazards, urban sustainability and territorial planning, being currently scientific adviser in the elaboration of the Landscape Catalog of the province of Malaga (Center for Landscape and Territory Studies).
