Oscar Plata
Professor
Department of Computer Architecture
Universidad de Malaga
Spain
Biography
Prof. Plata earned a M.S. in Physics in 1985 and a Ph.D. in Physics (Electronics) in 1989, both from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. In October 1986 he was given the Extraordinary M.S. Degree Award from the University of Santiago de Compostela. While finishing his Ph.D. he started as Assistant Professor in the same University and moved to the University of La Coruña in 1990. In that year he becomed Associated Professor back again in the University of Santiago de Compostela, and moved to the University of Malaga in 1995. Since 2002 Dr. Plata is Full Professor in the Computer Architecture Department at the University of Malaga. Prof. Plata has more than two decades of teaching experience related to computer architecture. He lectured on computer technology, organization and architecture, multiprocessors, distributed architectures, concurrent computing, compilers for supercomputers, vector and parallel computing ... He also gave invited lectures in different Universities on a variety of topics, like supercomputing and parallel processing, parallelization techniques on hypercubes, task scheduling in parallel computers, scalable shared-memory multiprocessors, automatic parallelization of irregular codes, locality exploitation in dynamic programs, parallel programming models for supercomputing, transactional memory ... Prof. Plata also have more than twenty five years of research experience in the field of high-performance computing, making contributions in different areas like parallel languages, parallel algorithms, optimization techniques for code parallelization, parallel loop scheduling and data locality exploitation, and more recently, transactional memory, code scheduling and data mapping for multicore processors and hardware acceleration (hybrid parallel programming).
Research Interest
Static and dynamic optimization techniques for high-performance execution of programs.
