Xavier Font I Castell

Research Interest

When finishing his degree in biological sciences at the University of Barcelona, ​​he specialized in the study of the grassland of the Pyrenees, a topic on which they will find their Degree Thesis ("Structure, typology and ecology of mountain pastures of the Cerdanya ", published in 1989) and his Doctoral Thesis (" Geobotanical studies on the xerophilous meadows of the mountain range of the Pyrenees ", awarded with the Font Quer prize from the year 1990 and published in 1993). Without leaving aside the study of vegetation communities and vegetation cartography, from 1993 he works in the field of computer data management and assumes the secretary of the work group ORCA (Organization for the Mapping of plants vasculars of the PPCC, http: //biodiver.bio.ub. es / orca /) of the IEC that has published 16 volumes of the Corollary Atlas of the PPCC. Since 1998, and following an agreement between the Generalitat de Catalunya and the University of Barcelona, ​​it is in charge of the general coordination of the BDBC (Biodiversity Data Bank of Catalonia) and its section of Cormophytes and Vegetation. Since 2000, in relation to the direction of two Theses, several computer software development projects, among which we should highlight the VegAna package (Vegetation edition and Analysis Tools, an agreement between the Generalitat de Catalunya and the University of Barcelona is in charge of the general coordination of the BDBC (Biodiversity Data Bank of Catalonia) and its section of Cormophytes and Vegetation.
