Biography
Dr. Swanson joined the P.T. faculty in 2015 in large part for its friendly, collaborative, community-oriented culture. He received a B.S. in Physical Therapy from Quinnipiac University in 1996. Since 2005, he has been a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy, and in 2006 he completed a two year residency and fellowship in Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy at the Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy in Woburn, MA. In 2012, he earned a D.Sc in Physical Therapy from Andrews University, where his doctoral work focused on validating tests and measures that may predict intervention specific pain relief for individuals with low back pain. Although his physical therapy clinical expertise covers a range of areas within the orthopaedic practice domain, he has worked most extensively in the area of rehabilitation for individuals with spinal and shoulder dysfunction. Dr. Swanson has previously taught in entry level and post-professional degree programs, clinical education, and in continuing education settings. His research program at UNE focuses on the validation of various tests and measures related to orthopaedic manual therapy, and comparative effectiveness studies of various physical therapy interventions on pain, function and physical activity.
