Biography
David Koester, Ph.D. is currently a Professor in the Department of Biology at the University of New England. He received a BA in Zoology from Miami University, a PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Delaware, and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pittsburgh. After many years in the Anatomy Department in the College of Osteopathic Medicine at UNE, Dave took a position in the Department of Biology. Over the years he has taught Human Gross Anatomy (full dissection course), Histology, Human Embryology, and Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy. He currently teaches Introductory Biology courses in Ecology/Evolution and Cell/Molecular Biology to undergraduate biology majors in the College of Arts and Sciences and Human Anatomy to students in the Doctoral Physical Therapy Program in the Westbrook College of Health Professions.
Research Interest
Current Research Anatomy of the pelvic fin of skates including muscle fiber typing; the immune system of skates; development of the electric organ of skates. Research Interests Functional morphology of vertebrates with emphasis on the anatomy and development of the electric organs of skates; pelvic fin locomotion in skates
