Biography
Dr. Sheldon joined the faculty in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of New England in 1990. Prior to joining the faculty, he was a staff physical therapist (General Surgery, Neurology, Orthopedics, & Inpatient Rehabilitation Rotations), and then senior physical therapist (Neurology and Neurosurgery) in the Physical Therapy Department, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1997 and was appointed Program Director in 2001. He has overseen the education programs’ continued accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) through the transition from a baccalaureate degree to master of physical therapy degree to the doctor of physical therapy degree program. Dr. Sheldon earned his Ph.D. in Public Policy from the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine. His scholarship and teaching interests include injury/disease prevention, health promotion, policy analysis and program evaluation. He is also a strong proponent of interprofessional education and service learning.
