Biography
Since mid December 2014, Antoni Ivorra (Barcelona, 1974) is an Associate Professor and a Serra Hunter Fellow at our department. Before obtaining tenure he benefited from a “Ramón y Cajal” fellowship and from a Marie Curie IRG fellowship. He obtained a BSc + MSc degree (1998) and a PhD (2005) in Electronics Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. His research is mostly focused on bioelectrical phenomena and on exploring the use of these phenomena for implementing new methods and devices for biomedical applications. Specifically, his main research topics are electroporation, particularly for cancer treatments, electrical bioimpedance for diagnostic purposes and, for a few years now, electrical neuromuscular stimulation for neuroprosthetics. Prior to joining the department in 2010, he enjoyed a four year postdoctoral stay at the University of California at Berkeley (2005-2009) followed by an eight month postdoctoral position at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique – Institut Gustave Roussy, Villejuif, France. Before that, he was with the Biomedical Applications Group of the Centro Nacional de Microelectrónica, Bellaterra, Spain. He is author or coauthor of 36 publications in peer-reviewed journals, 3 book chapters and more than 30 conference contributions. He has been inventor or co-inventor of 11 families of patent applications. In addition he has performed multiple consultancy and technology transfer tasks for companies in the field of electrical bioimpedance and in the field of electroporation.
