Biography
Dr. Saltarelli joined Vertex in 2017 as Senior Vice President, Early Development and Neurology. In this role, he leads Vertex’s Early Development activities, including Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Biomarkers, and Neurology. For more than 20 years, Dr. Saltarelli has been focused on defining, building and successfully advancing development pipelines through the application of advanced translational paradigms in the biomedical and pharmaceutical sectors. Prior to joining Vertex, he served as Chief Medical Officer at Annexon Biosciences, where he was responsible for clinical development, regulatory, strategy and operations. He was also formerly the Chief Science Officer at Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals, directed Shire’s Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, and Innovation groups in Europe and the U.S., served as Divisional Vice-President, Neuroscience Development at Abbott Laboratories [AbbVie], and was Head of the CNS Early Clinical Research Group at Pfizer.Before entering the pharmaceutical sector, Dr. Saltarelli served as Assistant Professor of Neurology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. He earned a B.S. (Psychology) from the University of Illinois – Urbana, and M.D. and Ph.D. (Neuropharmacology) degrees from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore M.D. Dr. Saltarelli completed neurology residency training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and currently serves as member of MindImmune Therapeutics Board of Directors.
