Dr.Prasad Katulanda is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Clinical Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine University of Colombo and an Honorary Consultant Endocrinologist/Physician at the University Medical Unit of the National Hospital of Sri Lanka. He is a Board Certified Endocrinologist and a Diabetologist. He is also the coordinator of the Diabetes Research Unit in the Department of Clinical Medicine in the University of Colombo. He is currently the President of the Endocrine Society of Sri Lanka. Prasad Katulanda graduated withFirst Class Honours from the University of Colombo and obtained MD (Medicine) from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine of the University of Colombo in 2003. He was subsequently  trainedin endocrinology and diabetes in the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Sri Lanka and the Oxford Centre for Diabetes Endocrinology and Metabolism, UK.  He obtained DPhil from the University of Oxford, UK in 2008 for his thesis ‘Aetiology and Epidemiology of Adult onset Diabetes in an endogenous South Asian Population in Sri Lanka’.  He is a clinician, an academic and a researcher with a special interest in Type 2 diabetes in South Asians and has over 50 peer reviewed publications and authored several books. His contribution to research in diabetes was recognised by the Sri Lanka Medical Association in 2009 with its prestigious SLMA oration and the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine in 2008 by the PGIM oration. He has been invited to deliver lectures in International and National conferences and to serve in several committees on non-communicable Diseases of the Ministry of Health. Dr.Prasad Katulanda is the ice President of the Endocrine Society of Sri Lanka and is the Assistant Secretary of the Sri Lanka Medical Association.

Research Interest

Epidemiology research on diabetes, cardiovascular disease and other chronic Non-communicable diseases and risk factors especially in South Asians;Development of intervention models to reduce the burden of diabetes and chronic NCDs; Aetiology including genetic aetiology of diabetes in South Asians; Clinical research on diabetes, obesity and endocrine diseases in Sri Lankans.
