Biography
Dr. Abayasekara joined the Department in 1982 as a Temporary Assistant Lecturer, and has been on its permanent staff since 1984. His research interests include credit markets, environmental economics, economics of poverty, and economics education. A Fulbright Scholar, and formerly consultant to development agencies, such as the World Bank and GTZ, he has received training in environmental economics at workshops organized by the Beijer Institute and EEPSEA. He has collaborated on research on poverty in Sri Lanka, and is published in Modern Sri Lanka Studies and The Sri Lanka Journal of the Humanities. He currently teaches ECN653 (Contemporary Issues in the Regional and Global Economy), and coordinates the final year undergraduate dissertation process.
