H.a.w.s. Gunathilaka

Biography

Dr. H.A.W.S Gunathilaka graduated with B.Sc. Agriculture Honors majoring in Agriculture Engineering from University of Peradeniya Sri Lanka in 1991. He obtained his M.Phil from Postgraduate Institute of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and a Ph.D from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, India in Soil and Water Engineering. His research study was on Mathematical Modeling of the design factors of Drip Irrigation. Throughout the career his research area was on design of micro irrigation and Farm Machinery. Dr. Gunathilaka’s academic career starts as a Lecturer in the NWP/ Affiliated University College in 1992 soon after his Bachelor’s degree. He is one of the pioneer staff member of the university. In 1996, he was recruited to the Department of Plantation Management, of Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management, Rajarata University and later in 2001 converted into Wayamba University of Sri Lanaka. Dr. Gunathilaka actively involved in developing the Faculty of Agriculture and Plantation Management by contributing his service, especially on Agriculture Engineering section. He has severed as a Director, Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technological Education from 2012 to 2016 on sabbatical and secondman leave basis. In February, 2016 he returned to Wayamba University.

Research Interest

Mainly focused on designing of Micro Irrigation Systems Developed a mathematical method that can directly gives the layout of a micro irrigation system. Other research areas are design and development of farm machinery.
