Biography
Dr. Charles Cox is a surgical oncologist at the University of South Florida (USF), since 1983. He completed his medical school training at the University of Utah followed by surgical residency and two years of surgical oncology fellowship at Duke University. The Comprehensive Breast Cancer Program at the University of South Florida was initiated in 1984 under his direction. In 1986, he moved the program to the Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute at the University of South Florida. Dr. Cox and his colleagues spearheaded the research and training in the technique for Lymphatic Mapping and Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in breast cancer patients. Along with pathology colleagues, they developed the Intra-Operative Touch Preparation Cytology for the evaluation of surgical margins. Dr. Cox has been recognized within the local and national press and was honored by his colleagues as a “doctor’s doctor”, is listed in Who’s Who in America and sited in the Best Doctors in America, Southeast Region. In 1999 he was named Physician of the year at the Moffitt Cancer Center. Dr. Cox is also the Principle Investigator of Agendia’s Multi- Institutional Neo-adjuvant Therapy MammaPrint Project I (MINT) Trial. The MINT Trial is designed to test the ability of MammaPrint® in combination with TargetPrint®, BluePrint®, and TheraPrint®, as well as traditional pathologic and clinical prognostic factors, to predict responsiveness to neo-adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with locally advanced breast cancer (LABC).
