Biography
Dr. Baell is a Principal Research Fellow of the National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia, a Research Professor in Medicinal Chemistry at the Monash Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (ranked at #4 in the world in 2016 for Pharmacy and Pharmacology according to the QS World University Rankings), and Co-Director of the Australian Translational Medicinal Chemistry Facility. Dr. Baell’s interests principally include HTS library design, medicinal chemistry hit-to-lead and lead optimization focused particularly on infectious disease and cancer, and computer-aided peptidomimetic design in order to generate compounds with potential therapeutic utility and of value. He is a National Award-winning medicinal chemist with a battery of medicinal discoveries with 40 granted patents and licensing deals with several companies. He has more than 100 publications and close to 3000 citations with publications in Nature, Nature Chemical Biology and frequently in top specialist journal Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. His 2010 PAINS paper has already been cited more than 500 times and is the most highly cited primary research publication in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry since 2010. Dr. Baell sits on a number of influential national and international advisory boards. He is a Senior Editor for Future Medicinal Chemistry, and is on the Editorial Advisory Board for Biology, Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, & Current Medicinal Chemistry, and a Review Editor for Frontiers in Chemical Biology.
