Biography

Patrick Johnson is Vice-President in charge of Sciences & Corporate Research for Dassault Systèmes (3DS) where he defines the strategic scientific foundations for 3DS, and invents new disruptive technologies for 3DS customers’ next generation practices and solutions. Mr. Johnson joined 3DS in 1996 and held various positions in R&D, ranging from PLM infrastructure to virtual design solutions delivery for CATIA. He then became head of the Knowledgeware Department and, convinced by the potential of Knowledge Management, delivered key breakthroughs now used by the engineering community, such as intelligent morphing templates usage, or business processes automation. In 2003, he was appointed Executive Assistant to 3DS’ Vice Chairman Bernard Charlès, and took up his present position in 2005. Since then, he has led various Research projects, nurturing unique technologies for 3DExperiences and fostering public/private partnerships with prestigious research institutes (INRIA, INSERM, Polytechnique, Ecoles des Mines, IRCAM etc..). In addition, Mr Johnson launched a complete new diversification area, developing the bioPLM suite of collaborative applications targeting pharmaceutical, cosmetics & agrochemical companies and heading the BioIntelligence +120 M€ program with a dozen of public and private partners. This resulted in the creation of the BIOVIA brand (soon followed by the Accelrys company acquisition). Mr. Johnson graduated from SupAero (“National Higher Engineering School of Aeronautics and Space”) in 1994, and obtained his Master's degree in Computer Science in 1995. Finally, Mr. Johnson has been or is a member of the following organizations: Scientific Boards (INRIA, ARISS, IRCAM), Industrial Advisory Board (ISCB) Mathematical Culture Committee (Henri Poincaré Institute) Design Theory Chair at Ecoles des Mines Qualified personalities group of the French Economic, Social and Environmental Council
