Biography
Anders Markstedt is professor of the practice, infrastructure planning, at the Divison of Geology and Geotechnics, Road and traffic research group. Anders is one of Sweden´s most experienced professionals in the field of infrastructure and traffic planning. As a Professor of the Practice he is bridging the gap between academics and professionals. His ambition is to introduce more external lecturers, to develop a more systematic approach to find suitable thesis work based on request from companies and to develop relevant project work as part of the courses. Equally important is to keep employers updated on what the students learn. Research goals are to meet the challenges of finding sustainable solutions in the field of urban infrastructure planning. This involves making more efficient use of space by means of underground and above ground planning, finding multifunctional use of space and space time-sharing. As a former Director in WSP he also brings management skills to the department. This will be used in forming strong multidiscipline research groups that will be able to focus on the challenges of urban infrastructure planning and project implementation. He is presently engaged as Consultant to the West Link Project in an advisory role. The West Link is an EU 2 billion railway tunnel through the Centre of Gothenburgh.
