Biography

My master studies in Architecture was completed in 1989, where the Master’s thesis focused on processes of self-design and self-construction in rural settlements in Argentina. After receiving the Master’s degree, I worked as architect and co-owner of an architect bureau for some years. During the 1990s, my interest in sustainable urban development issues grew and in 1997, I commenced PhD studies and recieved the doctoral degree in Architecture and Urban Planning in 2003. From 2004, I worked as Assistant Professor at the research group Built Environment and Sustainable Development at Chalmers Architecture, in 2009 I was accepted as unpaid docent (oavlönad docent) at the department, and in 2010 I started my current position as Associate Professor (docenttjänst). Between 2009 and 2013, I was heavily engaged as research leader at Mistra Urban Futures Centre of excellence. Currently, I am involved in a number research projects in collaboration with other departments at Chalmers, as well as with Swedish, European, African and Latin American universities. I am engaged in teaching in Master’s courses, Master’s thesis supervision and supervision of PhD students. Additionally, I am responsible for student and teacher exchange with Maseno University in Kenya funded by the Linnaeus Palme program and I am Nordic Coordinator of the double degree Nordic Master’s program Sustainable Urban Transitions within the Nordic Five Tech collaboration.
