Biography
Louise Karjalainen is a licensed psychologist, trained in Edinburgh and Copenhagen and specialising in neuropsychology and clinical psychology. She has been a PhD student at GNC since 2012 and in November 2016 defended her thesis entitled Eating disorders, eating pathology and ESSENCE – focusing on the connection between neuropsychiatry and eating disorders. The studies compiled in the thesis includes for example the development and validation of an instrument pertaining to eating pathology in autism spectrum disorders, a study of the prevalence of eating disorders in adults with autism spectrum disorders and ADHD, as well as examining alterations of grey matter in brain areas connected to social cognition in individuals with anorexia nervosa and autism spectrum disorders. Louise has previously worked at the Child Neuropsychiatric Clinic (CNC), Queen Silvia Children’s Hospital in Gothenburg, where neuropsychiatric disorders in children are assessed, and in specialised eating disorder units, the Anorexia-Bulimia unit at Queen Silvia Children’s Hospital and the Anorexia and Bulimia Unit for adults, in Gothenburg.
