Biography
Phil Wilson is a Visiting Professor at the Gillberg Neuropsychiatry Centre. He studied physiology in Oxford, followed by doctoral studies on monoamine control of the neuroendocrine system. He studied clinical medicine in Cambridge. He was a partner in a small general practice in Glasgow between 1988 and 2010. In 1997 his practice became one of five government-funded research practices in Scotland. In 1995, he began to work one day per week in the Department of General Practice in Glasgow as a researcher. He received a primary care career scientist award in 2003, with a research programme addressing the role of primary care in improving the mental health of pre-school children.
Research Interest
Most of his current research involves early identification of and intervention in childhood psychiatric disorders and he was academic adviser to the evaluation of the Glasgow Parenting Support Framework, which had two associated PhD studentships. He is currently involved in a broad range of randomised trials and epidemiological studies. In 2010, he was appointed Senior Lecturer in Infant Mental Health in Glasgow University, and in 2012 was appointed Professor of Primary Care and Rural Health at the University of Aberdeen. He has over 100 peer-reviewed publications covering a wide range of topics.
