Biography
Maria combines interdisciplinary research and development with working life studies, especially regarding women and gender in male-dominated occupations. A main interest is feminist approaches in the engineering sciences, another is gender and the development of the Arctic economy. The women's movement in the Arctic and globally, and activities relating to women and gender in the knowledge society are sources of inspiration. Maria's work relates to the theories and methodologies of the women's movements in the Nordic academia; influences from European social sciences and feminist philosophy, and North American feminist science and technology studies. Since 2002, Maria has been engaged in development of alternative solutions for communications and internet access for reindeer husbandry, primarily the DTN technology (Delay- and disruption Tolerant Networking).
