Biography
Maria Viklander is chaired professor in Urban Water Engineering and responsible for research carried out in the urban water field. Her trans-disciplinary research is conducted in close cooperation with stake-holders in order to develop sustainable urban water systems considering urbanization, resource constraints and climate change. Maria’s main research interest is stormwater quality regarding sources of pollutants, stormwater treatment and management as well as integration of stormwater issues and green infrastructure into urban planning and building. As expert in cold climate aspects of stormwater quality and management, she also specializes on snow quality, snowmelt and snow handling. Furthermore, Maria focuses on quantitative aspects of urban drainage in relation to surface run-off, flooding and mitigating systems and urban building to become more resilient to climate change. She also contributes to the development of research within the area of sewer management.
