Biography
Thomas Gunnarsson completed his graduation with an MSc in molecular biology from Lund University, Thomas moved to London for doctoral studies at the William Harvey Research Institute, University of London. His PhD project focused on the role of increased oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes and vascular dysfunction in diabetic animal models. Thomas received his PhD in pharmacology in March 2002. Thomas subsequently returned to Scandinavia for post doc studies at Lund University. In his post doc project he examined the release and degradation of gut-derived incretin hormones GIP and GLP-1 in mice. Following intra-gastric administration of different macronutrients, plasma levels of incretins were analysed and related to insulin, glucose and lipid profiles, rate of gastric emptying and DPP-4 activity using a variety of biochemical techniques.
