Biography
"Patricia Helsel, Associate Professor of Theatre, is head of the new degree program in Theatre and Electronic Media Performance. She teaches Acting, Voice and Articulation, Musical Theatre, Audition Techniques, Vocal Techniques for Media and Theatre, Presentation Skills courses. She recently directedThe Bald Soprano and The Lesson, two Eugene Ionesco one-acts, selected to be a part of the 2010 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, Region III. In April, 2009, Patricia directed The Robber Bridegroom transforming the Rozsa stage into a trailer park, featuring a pickup truck bluegrass ensemble. She was a guest performer, in the role of Sally Talley, in MTU’s production of Talley’s Folly and directedBeyond Therapy, and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy for the Visual and Performing Arts Department. Patricia has a Master of Fine Arts degree in Acting and Directing from Minnesota State University – Mankato, and a B.A. degree in Theatre and Music, from Elmira College. Patricia has taught Acting, Voice, Dialects, Musical Theatre, Introduction to Theatre, Public Speaking, and Oral Interpretation at Utah State University, The University of Louisiana at Monroe, Northwestern State University, and The Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts. Her professional work includes directing and performance (stage, radio, T.V.). She served as the Artistic Director for the Clinton Area Showboat Theatre, Director and Youth Program Coordinator for Robidoux Resident Theatre, Guest Director for Okoboji Summer Theatre, Director for Northern Utah Theatre Society, and Director/Educator for the Unicorn Children’s Theatre. "
