Biography
Dr. Samel received his Ph.D. degree in Microsystem Technology in 2007, from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden, where he conducted research on thermally responsive polymer composites for micro-scale sensors and actuators that have been designed for medical and biomedical applications. After joining the Nanosatellite Components group at ÅAC Microtec, Dr. Samel implemented thermal paraffin actuators within applications such as autonomous heat-switches for temperature control on nanosatellites. Subsequently, he joined the Nanoelectronics department at Acreo Swedish ICT, the leading Swedish research institute in the field of electronics, optics and communication technology, where he contributed to and eventually took over the responsibility for the ongoing research in MEMS based uncooled IR-detectors and heterogeneous MEMS integration. Dr. Samel is currently heading the Sensor Devices group at Acreo where he and his staff are responsible for the sensord and actuators R&D projects at the department of Sensorsystems at Acreo Swedish ICT. The past experience as a researcher, the team and the complementing applied research projects with industry form an excellent base in order to further conduct relevant and innovative research in the field of Micro- and Nanosystems integration.
