Biography
Dr. Bess graduated with a B.A. in Chemistry from Swarthmore College. He attended the University of Michigan for medical school and psychiatry residency where he served as Inpatient Services Chief Resident. Dr. Bess subsequently joined the faculty of the University of Michigan, Department of Psychiatry where he served as Medical Director of the Adult Inpatient Unit and Attending Physician on the Consultation-Liaison Service and the ECT Team. Dr. Bess has authored several papers and is co-author of the Manual of Inpatient Psychiatry.
Research Interest
His clinical interests include ECT and other brain stimulation therapies, thoughtful pharmacotherapy of treatment-resistant mood disorders and the treatment of catatonia and co-occurring medical-psychiatric illness.
