Research Director of the Joint Research Centre, European Commission, Brussels 1998–2001. President of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) 2001–2008 and Chairman of IVA 2009–2011. Chairman of the European Council of Academies of Applied Sciences and Engineering 2008–2012.
