Biography
Erin Tran, Ph.D., Staff Scientist, Laboratory of Cell Biology, Biophysics Section, National Cancer Erin Tran is a staff scientist in the laboratory of Sriram Subramaniam at the National Institutes of Health. Research done in the lab uses state-of-the-art 3D imaging methods to determine structures of molecules of biomedical interest. Current research projects include structural analysis of glycoprotein structures on the surface of viruses such as HIV, influenza and Ebola using cryo-electron tomography. Structural information about these viral envelope proteins is obtained in a near-native state to provide insights about mechanisms of viral entry and neutralization and to aid in vaccine design. Erin received her Ph.D. in Microbiology from the Department of Bacteriology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She joined the Laboratory of Cell Biology at the National Cancer Institute as a post-doc and has been a staff scientist in the lab since 2016.
